Many people begin their internet marketing efforts without having any clear idea of how to proceed. For those who do have some kind of business background, there is still a learning curve with internet marketing that often poses a real challenge. When you start out with internet marketing, you find out pretty fast that it’s not like conducting business offline. Offline, when you want to contact someone you either pay them a visit or pick up the phone; on the net, you have to be more subtle and lure visitors to your squeeze page or get them to opt in to your email list. The one thing you need if you are going to sell anything online is website traffic; you can learn how to buy it or how to attract free traffic, but it’s essential to learn how to get it.
For example, there are many ways to advertise online, such as the various pay-per-click services offered by the search engines, but to profit from these you have to take the time to learn how to use them. Though online marketing borrows heavily from direct marketing, the way it is done is clearly different. This, sadly, sets the stage for most people who get into internet marketing to not really know what they are doing and fail at it. There is the temptation to consider how many millions of people are online and then figure that it shouldn’t be that hard to sell something to a good number of them. However, this is far from true, as you are still required to put in the hard work and effort needed to build a business.
Hype is a very common denominator with so many IM course showing you how to get rich online. There must be millions of sites just oozing with hype, and they’re all hoping you’ll buy everything they have to offer. Expensive product launches, “Hurry before price increase,” fast action bonuses to X number of lucky people – all contribute to the hype. Hey, I understand it’s easy to get overcome by the hype, and then you start thinking it’s all true! Some people will purchase only for the cool bonuses. It’s only later they see firsthand that it was not quite as they thought it would be. If you ever are tempted to buy an IM course – just make sure it intelligently relates to what you do and your business. Thinking over and over again and believing all the hype will only make things harder for you.
Confusion due to listening to too many people is another common mistake. You need to find one mentor and take his advice. But it’ll be a waste of time if you ignore your mentor but not what others have to say about things. So avoid doing that by ignoring other experts and turn your attention to your own mentor. Then you will have focus and attain your goals.
People who fail at internet marketing are those who quit too soon; simply make up your mind that this is a game you are going to win. Now that you know about these common mistakes, you can avoid making them. It’s easy to avoid them once you have your awareness level high
