I have one main hosted domain name and then I own about 4 other domain names that all point back to the hosted domain name. When I place backlinks, should they be with the main hosted domain name or the domain names that forward to that site? What is more effective? Does it matter? I am just looking to optimize my rankings for the local area of my business – a chiropractic office. I don’t want to do linkfarms or anything like that. Any advice is appreciated…

When you put content on the satellite sites deep link to articles or postings or pages on the main site. That will up the main site in the rankings. Make sure you go to ping.com and ping your sites.
That kind of back linking gives your main site legitimacy with Google etc.

Getting high quality backlinks for your site can be very expensive. This is especially true if you’re involved in a highly competitive niche.
For your situation, I suggest you to link all the backlinks directly to your main website. That will help you to improve the search engine ranking for your main website for the keywords that you are targeting.
